At the last Round Table Conference in Auckland in May 2010 there was a very interesting discussion about many aspects of DAISY production by Andrew Furlong, the Technical & Production Development Manager, Vision Australia (chair of the discussion), David Vosnacos – Programme Manager, Information Systems, Association for the Blind of Western Australia, Phil Lawson – National Library Manager, CBM Australia, Marianne Kraack – Manager, Library Collections and Access, Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind and Hiromitsu Fujimori – Manager, Research & Development, Plextor. Moira has posted about this at the Round Table Conference blog where there is an audio recording of the discussion, a link to flickr photos and presentation slides: Round Table Conference Blog
It was decided at the last Round Table Conference to set up a special interest group for Round Table members which use DAISY production software. As we all know, technology moves quickly and people change or simplify ways of doing things. At this stage the group’s purpose will be technical with the following areas covered:
- Sharing knowledge and expertise in DAISY
- Player developments
- Digital Rights Management
- Discussing technical solutions associated with DAISY
The next time we will be able to discuss issues with DAISY in a forum setting will be at the next Round Table conference in Melbourne in May 2011 but in the meantime we can share our ideas and questions here at the Round Table blog!
